Our people

Find out more about the people who make up the Work and Equalities Institute.

In December 2021 Anthony Rafferty, Professor of Employment Studies and previous Deputy Director of the Institute, was appointed the new Managing Director of the Work and Equalities Institute. He said, “It’s an honour to be taking over as Managing Director at this important time and I thank Jill and all our members for the excellent work in establishing the institute over the last few years. The global pandemic has reinforced the centrality of work and equalities issues and so the core research objectives of the institute. As a collaborative endeavour, I very much look forward to continuing working with so many great colleagues on the next phase of development and our important work ahead”.

Jill Rubery will continue as executive director and a member of the WEI’s management committee. Her main roles will be to act as an ambassador for the WEI within its international networks and to further strengthen and broaden these networks. A particular objective is to assist early career researchers to develop their own international contacts and reputation, given the restrictions on travel since Covid, and to further enhance the WEI’s international reputation for world-leading research on issues related to work and equalities.
